2020 Fall Session Update

Good morning everyone.

Thank you for your patience while I dealt with one computer problem after the next.  It took me a really long time to be able to get on here to retrieve your email addresses and I am sorry for making you wait!

This time has given the coaches a chance to discuss all required health procedures and to watch what the numbers were going to do when kids went back to school.  Because covid numbers if youth appear to be on the rise at the moment and because AHS health rules require changes be made to our space and how we run our class we have decided to defer our lessons to January.

I am very sorry for any disappointment this may cause our new and old athletes but for the time being we cannot run enough small classes and meet all requirements and not burn out our small range of coaches that don't have personal health considerations that prevent them from coaching.

What were are going to offer is the following:

1) Zoom coaching sessions - you can go into any range, or shoot in a personal space like a basement or a garage with your phone on a tripod or being held by a family member.  One of our coaches will watch you shoot and correct you while you are shooting.  Sessions can be any duration but the recommended start range would be 20 minutes.  These can be pre-booked to suit your schedule.

2) Recorded "dry land" training - our coaches will be putting together a series of workouts, mental training sessions, goal setting and other archery theory in video format to watch and take part in.  These might be a combination of live and pre-recorded and will be loaded to our website.

3) We are very much hoping that life will stabilize after the fall return of students to school and parents to work.  If that is the case we plan to run a winter session in January and may also run a spring session in April or June (by way of make up for this missed fall opportunity). .

Again, I am so sorry for lack of communication and mostly for having to defer our fall program.  This is the first time in the 20 + years of me being involved in the program that we haven't had a fall start up and our coaches will be missing your smiling faces returning as you will miss shooting but we feel strongly that if we can't do things right we need to wait until we can.

Please let me know if you have any questions or want to start booking a zoom coaching session right away.

Stay safe everyone and good luck on your return to work and school!  We will be crossing our fingers that numbers stabilize and we can open up for normal classes soon!

Information about the Alberta Winter Games

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to make sure to update everyone about some changes to the Alberta Winter Games.

The next Games is in Airdrie in February 2020 but trials will be here before you know it!

In past years I was a zone rep and team coach so I was always "in the know".  This year Vicki and I have given up our spaces to make room for a whole new set of volunteers.  Because of that I won't always have the most up-to-date information about stuff related to the Alberta Winter Games and their trials.

I wanted you to all know the website that will be your best resource as the months go on so that you don't miss out on any opportunities.

Make sure you keep a regular check on https://archeryalberta.ca/alberta-winter-games-information/ for everything you need to know!

I should mention here that our very own Coach Brendan and Coach Erika will be leading the Zone 2 team.  Congratulations guys!

The Zone 3 team is being coached by coaches out of JimBows Junior Program.

Hope you are enjoying the warm weather!
